Unexplained Facial pain
Facial Pain has in the past been difficult to treat as the diagnosis is usually made on the client’s symptoms and not from conclusive tests or scans. Some known causes include trigeminal neuralgia, infection, post herpetic neuralgia (shingles)or pain following surgery to the sinus, jaw or teeth. Trigeminal neuralgia is the most common affecting one or all of its branches, ophthalmic, mandibular and maxillary . The treatment given for the pain includes anticonvulsant drugs, tricyclic antidepressants and topical analgesics. Acupuncture is also helpful.
What is Meta Medicine view point?
The face area could suggest not being able to find face to look at someone or something, thinking that your face does not fit in a social situation or other problems felt when your face is looked at. The altered skin sensation on the face and scalp indicates that the somatosensory cortex is the area affected by the shock. The epidermal skin area relates to a feeling of separation.
Client at Physiologic
A 57 year old left-wired female was referred with an 18 month history of left facial pain. She had been diagnosed by a neurologist with left trigeminal neuralgia and left hemicrania with intermittent headaches and unexplained puffy hands.
On examination there was no loss of facial muscle control only sensitivity on the left of the scalp. Palpation of the cervical spine revealed some pain over C1 and C2 on the left but no true segmental joint problem. She had full range of painfree cervical spine movement. The temperomandibular joint also appeared normal.
Meta Medicine diagnosis
The client is in resolution but retriggering as the headaches and hand swelling indicate the healing crisis. The fact that it is on the left would indicate it is to do with her either her partner, father ,work or institutions/outer world.
What was the conflict?
Following surgery for another condition the client came back to the ward after a minor trauma in recovery with low blood pressure. When she arrived late on the ward the sister in charge said she did not like the look of her and did not really want her on that ward. UDIN. She felt an instant feeling of separation as her face did not fit with the Institution(health service). The resolution came when her daughter came back form Canada 4 months later and unexpectedly arrived on her doorstep and commented on how well her mother looked.
Treatment
Following one session of the Meta Healing Process the headaches and altered sensation returned to normal. She was left with a slight ache in her muscles on the left side of her neck. This was cleared with carniosacral therapy. She experienced a healing crisis following treatment with an increase in headache for 15 minutes two days following the session.
